HON. BETHEL AMADI HOSTS MBAIKE PEOPLE'S PUBLIC FORUM ON THE REVIEW OF THE CONSTITUTION
On Saturday November 10, 2012, the Member representing Mbaitoli/ Ikeduru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Bethel Amadi hosted a Public Forum on the review of the Constitution at the Mbaitoli Local Government Council Field. The event which was chaired by Chief Uche Mbah, began with an opening prayer by the Bishop Chuka Ekeman, retired Prelate of the AME Zion Church, Nigeria. In attendance were the member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ndunagum, Chairman of Mbaitoli Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Peter Opara with other traditional rulers, Town Union Presidents and their executives, labour union leaders, representatives of the academic community, youth bodies and women organizations.

The template by the House of representatives was adopted and voting on the key issues was done in seriatim as the Chairman of the public hearing, Chief Uche Mbah read out the issues in the template and called for voice vote and when necessary, counting of hands raised in support or against. Explanations/ clarifications were required was provided by the Facilitator, Hon. Bethel Amadi.
The Forum called for the amendment of Section 8 of the Constitution to remove the ambiguities in the process for the creation of states and equally voted for the creation of additional state in the Southeast to bring parity in the number of states per geo-political zone.
The Forum rejected the inclusion of the geo-political zones in the Constitution and voted that the Fundamental objectives and directive principles should be made justiciable and equally voted for the granting of financial autonomy to the State Houses of Assembly.
The People's Forum called for the abolition of Joint State/ Local Government Account, tenure of local government councilors and Chairman to be defined and called for the power to create local government councils to be vested in the Federal Government. They equally called for the abolition of State Independent Electoral Commissions.
On immunity for the President, Vice President, Governors and their deputies, the people voted that the immunity should only cover civil proceedings while in office and rejected the establishment of State Police.His Excellency, Hon.
